A custom mobile app — for customers, field teams, or operations — can qualify for up to 50% EDG co-funding for eligible Singapore SMEs, when it drives a real productivity gain.
Building a mobile app is a significant investment, and for eligible Singapore SMEs the Enterprise Development Grant (EDG) can cover up to 50% of qualifying costs. The grant has no fixed dollar cap and is assessed per project by Enterprise Singapore.
A mobile app usually qualifies under the EDG’s Innovation & Productivity pillar — provided it does more than exist. A customer-booking app that removes phone-tag, or a field-team app that replaces paper job sheets, has the clear before-and-after productivity story EDG assessors look for.
What qualifies
What kind of app qualifies?
The app should create a measurable productivity gain or new capability. Strong candidates include:
Customer self-service apps
Booking, ordering or account apps that cut manual handling and phone enquiries.
Apps that integrate with your systems
Connecting the app to your ERP, dispatch or accounting so data flows instead of being re-keyed.
Companion apps to a web platform
A native app alongside a custom web build, sharing one system of record.

What it means for your app budget
A worked example: a custom mobile app in the S$30,000–40,000 range, with up to 50% co-funded, can bring your net cost to roughly S$15,000–20,000 — assessed on qualifying costs. Apps with payments, real-time tracking or AI scale higher, and the same up-to-50% logic applies.

The sequence that matters most

Can EDG fund both iOS and Android development?
Yes — a cross-platform or native build for iOS and Android is funded as part of the qualifying project costs. What matters for EDG is the productivity case, not the platforms.
Does a simple app with no clear productivity gain qualify?
It is a much harder case. EDG funds capability and productivity improvements, not software for its own sake — an app that demonstrably removes manual work or unlocks a new capability qualifies far more cleanly.
Do I apply before or after building the app?
Before. EDG works on reimbursement and you should secure approval before committing spend — so scope and quote first, apply via the Business Grants Portal, then build once approved.
